I love gelatin molds. They are silly, nostalgic, and occasionally yummy. Besides, what other food jiggles, suspends objects, AND allows for endless flavor combinations? The structural qualities and colors of gelatin can create visually stunning pieces almost too lovely to eat.
However, I’m not a fan of Jell-O products; I find them overwhelmingly sweet and artificial tasting. To bring the forgotten dessert form back to life in palatable and interesting ways, I create my gelatinous experiments from scratch. Inspiration comes from my friends’ favorite drinks, cocktails referenced in my favorite movies and TV shows, food blogs like Flagrante Delicia, and the unique gelatos and cocktails available at my neighborhood bar in Austin, Dolce Vita.
Several people have asked if I take the pictures seen on this blog, and the answer is yes. I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I somehow manage to get pictures I’m happy with. And unless stated otherwise, the recipes are also my own.
When not blogging about gelatin molds (which, trust me, is a lot of my time), I’m an unashamed pop culture junkie who enjoys cooking, dinner parties, indie rock, political humor, and the art of cocktails.
Cheers!

Check out my Halloween Part One post – There is a Bloody Mary mold recipe. Otherwise, I’m not a fan of savory gelatin molds, so I don’t make them 🙂 I hope you find/invent what you’re looking for.

Hi Casey… Wondering where in the world you are located? I just started a gelatin business this past year, but what I do is encapsulated gels…you can see my website at… http://www.thejellolady.com I’d be interested to see what you think of my work. Most of the other gelatin artists I know of are in California or Illinois.

Hi Casey,
I just LOVE your blog! I’ve turned all my vintage-ee girlfriends onto your blog. Anyways, I was hoping you could help me. I’m trying to track down the recipes for these little pastel gelatin molds (link to picture below). I just love them but every time I click on the picture on pinterest it just keeps sending me to other pinners without a recipe. Any chance you could help? I’d love to do them for a baby shower.
Best Wishes,
Tiffany

Hello, I just found your fantastic blog. I made a layered mango and lime mold using canned mango from the Dollar Store. The canning process allows the mango to be gelled, unlike raw mango. It tasted great and was an attractive apricot color which looked pretty on top of the creamy lime gelatin layer. Keep up the good work! Kath
